Ensiferum (лат. «меченосец», «вооружённый мечом») — финская фолк-метал-группа, основанная в 1995 году. Участники группы характеризуют свой стиль как «мелодичный фолк-метал».
После издания двух первых альбомов Ensiferum (2001) и Iron (2004) в составе группы произошли значительные изменения. В частности, предыдущий вокалист Яри Мяэнпяя был заменён Петри Линдроосом, который впервые появился на мини-альбоме Dragonheads (2006), как и некоторые другие участники группы. Фактически, из первоначального состава остался лишь основатель и гитарист группы Маркус Тойвонен.
ENSIFERUM – это настоящие мастера мелодик-дэт-метала, вдохновленного фолком, и на своем восьмом альбоме "Thalassic" группа воплощает в жизнь это сочетание еще более решительно, чем когда-либо. Название альбома переводится с древнегреческого как "морской или связанный с морями", что хорошо подходит для музыки, охватывающей широкий стилистический простор – в ней есть как оркестровки и традиционные народные инструменты, так и ревущие гитары, бас и барабаны. Появление клавишника Pekka Montin, который также взял на себя партии чистого вокала, "по-настоящему вывело песни на новый уровень", - говорит басист и вокалист Sami Hinkka. Mikko P. Mustonen вновь занимался оркестровками, а виртуозный скрипач Lassi Logren записал в нескольких треках партии народных инструментов.
